John Mervyn Frizzell  was born on 26th May, 1948 and passed away on 18th August, 2025.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Mervyn Frizzell, aged 77, on the 18th of August 2025 at Bundaberg Base Hospital.

John was a proud Bundaberg local and a farmer through and through — widely known for his unmatched skill in growing tomatoes. He earned recognition not just in Bundaberg but across Australia, often spoken of as the best tomato farmer of all time. It was once said that John could grow tomatoes in concrete — a testament to both his expertise and his tireless dedication to his land.

Farming was more than a job to John — it was his life’s work and his greatest passion. His strong work ethic, humble wisdom, and generosity touched many lives in the community.

In retirement, John found joy in the simple things: most of all, spending time with Arkeus (or “Arky”), the pure black, long-haired German Shepherd he shared with his son Kieran. Arky was his constant companion and a great source of comfort and happiness in his later years.

John is survived by his loving son Kieran Frizzell, his brother David Frizzell, and his sisters Pamela and Jillian. He will be remembered always for his kind heart, his legendary green thumb, and the quiet strength he carried through life.

In accordance with his wishes, John will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held on September 6th at his property. Family, friends, and all who knew John are welcome to come and honour his memory in the place he loved most — his home.

Rest easy, Dad. Your legacy will continue to grow, just like the gardens you nurtured.

A private cremation will be held as per John and his family’s wishes.
